Verfremdung is a live, experimental sound performance created in collaboration with musician Carly Barton. A German term that describes a sense of isolation felt by workers due to the rise of new technologies, Verfremdung is a critical look at present and future landscapes of work, unpaid digital labor within content consumption and production, and attention as currency. Paired with a 3-wall video projection, this project draws content from over 30 interviews conducted with digital laborers from platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Mechanical Turk.

Supported by a VR appendage, Verfremdung explores shifting definitions of space, materiality, and labor dynamics within the digital sphere
